Message: This is the best apartment I've ever lived in. Stayed here from mid 2019 to mid 2020 when attending IU and it is hands down the best apartment experience I've ever had; I compare all of my apartments to Heritage at this point.. The office staff was insanely helpful and friendly even outside of the office, and maintenance went above and BEYOND to help me---there was one time when my food was delivered to the wrong apartment and the wing place didn't believe me. I wish I remembered his name but the maintenance guy witnessed it and got on the phone with the place to defend me (they yelled at both me and him calling us liars, but that story's for another time), and he ended up offering me his own food if I needed some.. The area was surrounded by woods in the back side and felt really nice and homey. The inside of the apartment was light and it was just a really cozy feel, it felt big. I lived upstairs, but my downstairs neighbor said she never heard footsteps or anything of the sort. A good amount of IU students live in the apartments but no one was ever noisy or throwing ragers.. The only things that I wish would have been different is the laundry facility (get ready to load up on quarters at Kroger) and guest parking for the back apartments is SUPER limited. I think a back porch or patio also would have been a nice touch for the apartments in the back.. Genuinely enjoyed living here. If I ever move back to Btown this will be the place I go to.

Message: I've been at Heritage for 9 months and I was a little nervous about the bad reviews, but it's honestly been one of my better experiences as a renter. I don't know what people from the other reviews were expecting, but I have rented from four different landlords over the last 5 years and this one has the absolute quickest turn around on maintenance. I submit an online maintenance request and it's fixed within 2 days. Yes, it's an old apartment with kitchen cabinets and a medicine cabinet from the 80s, but there's also new carpet, fresh paint, and a new dishwasher. The bedrooms were way bigger than I was expecting and the living room is really spacious. I do my laundry at a laundromat instead of here because I don't think the laundry machines on site are very good. But at every other apartment I've lived in, my roommates and I had to provide our own washer & dryer or use a laundromat so that's not a dealbreaker for me. And yes - sometimes I hear the people downstairs when they decide to belt out a karaoke song, but one of the places that I lived before I heard the neighbor's TV every single day, so I think for an apartment the sound is really not bad. For reference, I live in "The Maple" floor plan and I'm on the top floor in one of the red buildings.

Message: The leasing office is very helpful and friendly. Unlike other leasing offices, they are reasonable and flexible. They are not squeezing renters by using contracts or policies. The maintenance responds quickly. Considering the cost of rent (almost the lowest cost in B-town), I am very satisfied with my experience in Heritage Apartment. Of course, you should not be late for paying the rental fee every month if you don't want to spend the late fee.

Message: No, my name is not Vicky, as I am currently living at Heritage and would prefer not disclosing my name. I have lived at Heritage for close to a year now and have mixed opinions. I'll start with the good parts.. I haven't had to deal with many problems. The apartment is average, fairly roomy, and a fair price for a 1br. You get amenities including a pool, gym, and a huge list I haven't even tried. Covered parking spot, can usually find an extra non-covered spot as well. I've had problems with the doorknobs not working in our apartment, and the 24/7 maintenance came out within minutes both times, the second time they ended up replacing two of them to fix it.. As for the bad, you may have heard at their Bloom complex that they removed appliances from tenants unable to pay rent during the COVID-19 lockdown, and only returned them after it hit the news. The hallways are never cleaned, you can see in the pictures. It varies a bit depending on the building as well, but I believe that is because the tenents in some of the buildings will just vaccum and clean, as not once has the hallway been cleaned *not* by me in the hallway to my apartment.. The handrail next to my door has been broken off for months, and we've sat it down next to the stairs so no one uses it and falls because it's not attached to anything. The carpets are stained in the hallways and rooms. I know for sure we won't get our deposit back, as our room had a ton of problems. Obvious spots painted over, disgusting closets, grimy bathrooms, etc. Nothing too bad, but definitely worse than the show unit.. Now, there are terrible apartment complexes in bloomington. The only contact I personally have had with Heritage has been positive. However I know someone else here who had already signed and was told a week later they were actually out of the floor plan they selected, but there was the same one with a balcany avalible.. for $100 more. They had to fight to have them not pay the extra $100/month, but still ended up having to pay the next year they stayed.. These apartments are not nice. They are however, free of bedbugs (to my knowledge, and not terrible if you can tolerate the dirty hallways, painted over walls, and a laundry unit that just *barely* won't dry your clothes in one run, requiring you to spend $6 total for 1 load of laundry. And good luck if you miss a payment. If all that is alright, then you can get by in Heritage. It's a fairly safe bet if you have low expectations. Plus, at least for me, most people here are NOT students, and are generally very respectful and quiet. That's honestly my favorite part. However, you can do better than this place if you really look. It's better than The Arch, at least. For $750 or so for a 2br, it's alright. Just pay your rent and save up for something nicer.

Message: I've lived at Heritage for about half a year now and I have to say that I like it a lot. Yeah, the walls are thin, but as far as I've noticed, there aren't many undergraduates or loud-noise-makers around (and I say that recognizing that my roommate and I are undergrads). We've had to call the maintenance crew in once due to an issue with our bathroom, but they got to the problem swiftly and by the time we checked it when they were gone, it was fixed very well and we haven't had problems since.. The people who have worked in the office so far have been absolutely fantastic to work with, and parking has never been an issue -- there's always room for my car and if a friend is staying over they have nothing to worry about either. The grounds are well-kept and this place is wonderful for people with animals to stay at. It's also at a good location -- a bus stops by every hour right in front of the complex, and if you miss that one, you just walk down the street a block to get to one a half hour later. Go one direction and you can get downtown to the square fast, and the other direction leads you to the mall, Kroger, and a movie theater. Either is about a 30 minute walk, campus about a 20 minute one (I walk fast, though, just FYI).. Really, the only reason I give them a lower than perfect score is that the apartments are obviously old. We got one of the older apartments with ovens from the 70s, and while it works perfectly well, it makes the apartment -look- like it's from the 70s. That and the walls -- which 99% of the time aren't issues unless one of the kids nearby decides to scream a lot are the biggest issues about the place. But definitely affordable, and it's comfortable living.
